Five on Friday {July 11, 2014}

While Friday is usually a time to curate an eclectic list of five random things we're loving each week, this week's love can be summed up in one single word - BUBLE! To pay homage to our fantastic night with our celebrity boyfriend, here are our top 5 moments from this week's Michael Buble concert (this may be the toughest post I've ever composed!):

ONE | The taxi ride to Madison Square Garden

Ok, I realize that this technically isn't part of the concert, but it definitely demonstrates how Michael Buble builds bridges across the hearts of strangers! As we rolled up to Madison Square Garden, our young, sideways hat-wearing taxi driver turned around and asked us, "Are you seeing Michael Buble tonight?" Of course, we gave him more than he bargained for and told him all about our MB obsession, and he told us that he too was a big fan! In fact, he was very sad that when his ex-girlfriend left him, she took both his dog and his Michael Buble CD (and honestly, it sounded like a toss-up about which one was more devastating). It's so rare to have a chat with a cab driver (other than getting into an argument about pricing!), but I'm not surprised that out of all the topics that could have brought us together, it was Michael Buble! Obviously it was a sign that we were in for an amazing night!

TWO | The crazy planks on the set
It may be hard to tell from these pictures because we didn't have the closest seats at the concert (whatever, once you've had lunch with Michael Buble, it's not like the front row is going to impress us anyway), but his set was pretty wacky (just like him!). Do you see these purple and aqua planks below?

They kept rising up and down to form all kinds of crazy shapes on the stage, and changing colors to suit the song's theme. We kept cracking up because they were so random, which made them so Buble!

THREE | The second stage
Here's another big plus about our seats...there was actually a second stage directly in front of us where Michael sang a few songs in the middle of his set, so we had a pretty fantastic view of that part of the show! As soon as that ring lit up, we knew we were in for a huge treat.

Can you imagine being the people inside that tiny stage? We know where our next concert seats will be located!

FOUR | The absolutely insane background graphics
Seriously, what was he thinking?! This guy can be such a clown sometimes, and we love him for it! The brightly colored background of "Beautiful Day" was so crazy that it seriously looked like something out of a children's TV show:

We also couldn't stop laughing at the enormous eye that was watching us during "Cry Me a River," Buble's absolutely fantastic first encore song. Oh, and do you see that tiny Michael right in front of the eye? That's when he actually stood and took a ride on one of those hilarious planks - we loved it!

FIVE | The VOICE!
As much as we adore his personality and would happily go to a show where he simply bantered with the audience for hours, that gorgeous singing voice always keeps us coming back for more. Sadly, our poor MB's voice was noticeably strained, which meant he had to make some vocal adjustments and modify some notes. However, that only made me love him more because he still put on a high energy, exciting show for his fans - if it were me, I probably would have been lying down on a couch!

It's nearly impossible to choose favorite songs from the concert, but here they are - M's was "Crazy Love," as she is a HUGE Van Morrison fan and she was obsessed with Buble's version from his last album and tour. My favorite, "Burning Love," was a surprise since it's not even on Buble's album, but the peppy performance was right up his alley (and I'll take any kind of Mistletones throwback that I can get, since this is the same song that Totally Hot Pretty Boy Boss Nick sings in the movie to reveal his secret karaoke prowess! But I digress).

Of course, no Buble concert would be complete without those same, reliable MB moments that we've come to expect and love: pointing out his grandpa in the audience, introducing his band by making up random lies about them, dancing and flirting with the audience, giving us permission to tell audience members who want us to sit down or be quiet that they should shut up (though Buble put it slightly more...colorfully), and of course, singing the final verse of his final song a cappella, with nothing but air between us and that beautiful voice.

Until we meet again, Michael!

  4. so much fun! I have seen Michael Buble twice, in the same 'concert run' in Sydney (so like twice in the same week) and it bummed me out because he made all the same jokes and stuff. But he was still amazing. I saw Keith Urban once and he came to the back like that smaller stage which we were RIGHT in front of and I got to touch him (squeeee not as exciting as having lunch with him of course) and he yelled 'who's got the cheap seats now?' haha it was so funny.
