2014 Resolutions: 3rd Quarter Check-in

We can't believe it's already time for Round Three of our 2014 resolution check-ins! We're trying to stay on track and accountable by reporting back on our progress each quarter - you can catch up on our first and second check-ins here, and keep reading to see how we did in July, August and September:

 (Catch up with B's 2014 resolutions here)

I started the first quarter off a little shaky and made some improvements in the second quarter, but how did I do this time? Let's check in with my original list of resolutions and see how I'm doing:

* Go on more vacations
This resolution is definitely a win! I escaped the snow and spent a week in sunny Florida back in February, and had a fantastic girls trip to Vegas in August. It doesn't look like there are any additional getaways in store for me in 2014 other than a possible long weekend staycation, but two trips that each require a plane ride make this goal a success (and hey, I certainly wouldn't turn down any additional vacations, if anyone wants to bring me along)!

* Cut out alcohol on weekdays
There's no way to sugar coat this one...it's been a pretty big failure! In my slight defense, summer tends to bring on more midweek happy hours so this will probably be (slightly) easier to maintain during the upcoming cooler months when everyone in NYC tends to hibernate (unless M decides to make me a Pumpkin Spice Latte Martini on a random Wednesday night...then, all bets are off!).

* Implement a "no spending week" every month
Like the 1st and 2nd quarters, this remains a total failure. However, as I said in my 2nd quarter update:

"Realistically, this resolution probably will not be successful this summer since there are so many outings already planned, but I hope to hop back on the wagon with this resolution in the fall."

I'm sticking with that plan and will try to stick to no-spend weeks in October, November, and December to end the year on a high note!

* Be a game show contestant
Here's a success story! In my last update, I announced that I had been selected to be a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I'm excited to let you know that I taped my episode!!! I still can't believe that I'm actually going to be on TV (air date TBD). I can't reveal any details until after my episode airs but I promise to do a full recap of the entire experience once I'm allowed to share. In the meantime, has anyone been watching the new season of Millionaire? Terry Crews really is just as sweet and fun in person as he appears on the show!

* Improve my fitness routine
This one is still a bit of a mixed bag...I definitely haven't become the gym rat of my dreams, but I have been working out more regularly than I did last year (though I'd still like to stick to more of a steady routine). I've kept up with BodyPump along with my old dance class stand-bys, and I've switched it up lately by attending a hip hop Zumba class (I love getting into the character of a hip hop star as I work out, it definitely motivates me, haha!).

* Cook more
This has actually been a pretty successful resolution for me! I can't claim that I'm a good chef, but I've definitely spent more time in the kitchen this year and most things have actually turned out to be edible (and no, I'm not only talking about our cocktail recipes). I recently made a delish stuffed shells dish that I'm super excited to share with you soon

* Be a more supportive friend and family member
I'm sure there's always more I could be doing, but I think I'm doing a pretty good job with this one. My family and friends are my #1 priority and I've tried to be more mindful this year of making sure they know how much they mean to me, and I've made a bigger effort to show up for as many events as possible. The upcoming holidays should provide me with even more opportunities to show my loved ones how much I care!

(Catch up with M's 2014 resolutions here)

Wow another quarter down and just like that we’re in the last quarter of the year!  I definitely struggled with some of my resolutions this past quarter, but I wouldn’t call it a complete failure since I was also able to make some exciting strides!  As a reminder, I structured my resolutions with the theme of Health, Wealth and Happiness, so let’s take a look and see how I did!

Happiness:
This time I’m going to start with the most exciting resolution – Happiness!  After talking about, dreaming it about, and spending all of my free time working on it for fun, I’ve finally taken my favorite hobby and turned it into a business with the launch of my Etsy Shoppe, The Printable Gal!  It’s no secret that I love crafting and I’d have to say that paper crafting of any sort if definitely my favorite.  I’m always whipping up printables for a party so I’m thrilled to now do it as a side business that will hopefully result in me including this as part of my Wealth update by the end of the year!  I promise this won’t be the end of our free printable giveaways, but if you are ever in the need for some custom paper goods, I hope you’ll keep The Printable Gal in mind and stop over to Etsy with some love!

Wealth:
Not much to report on this front – as with last quarter, I’ve stayed somewhere in the middle with this one.  I continue to track my finances with Mint, and coupon when I can but I can’t say I’ve done anything too noteworthy.  Again, let’s hope The Printable Gal explodes and I have big things to report at the end of the year!

Health:
As I mentioned last quarter, we introduced formula to Baby M and he did absolutely great with it!  Now that he’s a year, we’ve been able to switch over to milk, but I continue to make all of his meals.  I’m still struggling with packing lunch, but I’m determined not to give up on this one!  As for exercise, I still walk during small breaks at work, but I’m really eager to try out a class or two.  After reading such great things about the Barre Method (thanks Amanda!), I’m making it a goal to finally try out a class this quarter and hopefully regularly incorporate it into my routine.

We have one more quarter to finish off these resolutions on a high note! Are you still sticking to your 2014 resolutions?

xoxo

    I've been DYING to try a barre class but no one offers them in my little town :( I've heard it's an incredible, full body work out! You'll have to let me know what you think when you try it!

  10. In your defense, no spends are HARD! I also need to do a resolutions check it, although I'm quite positive I failed 85% of them so far. Perhaps that's why I should. Hmmm...
