Five on Friday {October 3, 2014}

Happy October! Bring on the apple picking, the cozy sweaters, new boots and scarves, and everything pumpkin. To welcome this new month, here are five things I'm loving this week:

ONE | Wedding weekend

This week started off on a celebratory note as I was a bridesmaid in my friend Alyssa's wedding (you may remember her Sparkle Bridal Shower and NYC Bachelorette Party). It was a beautiful day filled with epic dance moves, perfect weather, and lots of love - a full recap will be coming to the blog soon!

TWO | Book It Alumni Club!

I know I can't be the only nerdy bookworm who fondly remembers Book It - you remember, right? It was that Pizza Hut program where your class read a certain number of books in school (I'm a bit hazy on the exact details) and as a reward for your academic effort, you received a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Books AND pizza?! Sounds like a pretty outstanding combination to me! I still remember family outings to Pizza Hut where my brother and I would proudly "pay" for our own meals with our Book It vouchers - let's face it, it was a pretty good deal, and we certainly weren't about to turn down free pizza. I guess Pizza Hut realized how nostalgic people can get about Book It, because they're celebrating the 30th anniversary of Book It by bringing it back to adults who are alumni of the program! If you were Book It kid, you can sign up on Pizza Hut's alumni site to receive a personal pan pizza before October 10th. I mean, I may have earned a free pizza back in 7th grade when I actually read The Hobbit, but that was a ROUGH journey so I'm definitely happy to cash in on that nostalgia (and pizza) again as a "grown-up"!

THREE | Gone Girl

I know I'm not the only one who devoured this novel and has been not-so-patiently awaiting the movie release ever since - well, that day is finally upon us! Gone Girl is being released in theaters today, and I am eagerly anticipating seeing this twisty novel play out on the big screen (while munching on some popcorn, naturally). The only question now is...who wants to come with me?!

FOUR | Fall snacks

Now that the calendar has officially turned to October, I hereby officially sanction the consumption of all Halloween-themed snacks. I'm trying out some new sweet recipes this weekend along with some old favorites, such as my candy corn bark. Do you have any favorite easy fall desserts that I can whip up for a party?

FIVE | Murder mystery party

In case you're wondering which party all these fall desserts are for, I'm hosting a murder mystery night this weekend! I first came up with this idea about a week before Halloween last year and I've been dying to host one ever since (bad pun intended). All of the roles have been assigned and the detectives are ready to gather clues to solve the crime - now all I need to do is finalize the desserts and finish up some last-minute crafting! Has anyone ever participated in a murder mystery night before? Of course, I'll bring you full details and tips on how to host your own soon!

  8. I'm a summer fan, and always a little sad to see it go (even though fall is pretty wonderful)! I think whipping up a batch of that candy corn bark and heading off to see Gone Girl will help ease the transition! Have fun at your party...sounds like a great time!

  10. Girlllllll, this post. First, you look so beautiful in the pictures from the wedding, and the bride is absolutely stunning!
    BOOK IT was my shit - I was all about the reading because... pizza (I do also love to read though). Clearly my love of both pizza and reading has translated into adulthood too.
    YESSS Gone Girl! I'm going to see it tomorrow (if you want to come to Jersey, you're welcome to join! ;) for pre-Gone Girl drinks and then the movie... because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be on edge the whole time.
    Your fall snacks look awesome and the murder mystery party sounds so fun, and so creative! You come up with the best ideas, girl.
