The Best iPhone Apps: Food Helpers

My iPhone 4S may be pretty busted (can't wait until I finally upgrade to a 6!) but luckily, I'm still able to download some handy new apps! I previously shared my favorite iPhone restaurant apps and in keeping with the food theme, here are a few apps I've been loving lately that you should download immediately!

* Thyme

If you're a novice cook like me, it can be challenging to keep track of the timing for different elements of a dish that are all on the stove at the same time. Save yourself the guesswork with Thyme - this little app has the look of an adorable oven and stovetop, and it allows you to customize each of the burners with its own individual timer. This way, you'll never guess which pot you set the timer for, and you can start and stop all different timers whenever you need to!

* Checkout 51

This one is for all you bargain shoppers out there! Each week, Checkout 51 releases a list of common grocery items that are eligible for cash back. While most are name-brand products that I usually skip over, I check the app every week because there are usually at least 3 generic produce items that NEVER have coupons - we're talking any old kind of apples, tomatoes, milk, yogurt, etc. One time the app was offering 25 cents back on bananas and Trader Joe's was selling them for only 19 cents, so I got my banana and banked a cool six cents :) You're not going to get rich off of it, but it's nice to save a few coins on items that rarely or never have applicable coupons. Simply upload a photo of your receipt to the app, check off the items that you purchased that are on the discount list for that week, and watch your bank fill up. Once you hit $20, you'll receive a check in the mail - it's super easy!

* Pizza

When all else fails and you don't want to deal with oven timers or haggling over the price of produce, the Pizza app is there to save you. Its handy pizza compass will track the nearest pizzeria and literally point you in the right direction. It may seem like just a novelty app but when you're heading back from the bar at 3:00 a.m. and have an insatiable pizza craving, you'll be happy you downloaded this!

Which apps do you swear by?
