Five on Friday: {March 13, 2015}

TGIF Gals and Happy Friday the 13th! This week finally brought the first glimpse of Spring in the Northeast and I for one am ecstatic to welcome the warmer temps and increased hours of daylight (even if that meant completely suffering to the clock change on Monday morning!!). As always, we’re kicking off the weekend with our five favorites of the week. Here’s what’s been on my mind for the past week:

New Window Treatments

For my birthday this year, my in-laws very generously gifted me with getting some custom blinds for my living room and dining room. Pretty much from the second we moved into my house over 2.5 years ago, GG and I have been saying we want to get new window treatments (ok, more like I have been insisting we need them!) but of course, there is always something more important to take care of. So when my in-laws suggested it as a gift this year, I jumped at the chance to give my windows a much needed facelift! After some shopping, we selected custom roman shades in a gorgeous chocolate brown for the living room and a slate grey for my dining room. I ended up using Blinds To Go and highly recommend them! They have a great selection, and are a one-stop shop in that they also came out and measured for me and will be installing everything on Saturday! I can’t wait to see what a difference it makes on my main living space and promise to post some pics once they’re up!
Camera Lens Recommendation
Nikon 105mm // Nikon 85mm f/3.5 // Nikon 85mm f/1.8 // Nikon 60mm
I’ve been trying really hard lately to put down the iPhone and use my dSLR camera for blog pictures. While I’ve been happy enough with my recent pics, I’ve been struggling to capture really great detail shots, and therefore want to add a macro lens to my arsenal. After rereading some of my favorite photography books, and scouring my favorite resource, google, I promptly became overwhelmed!

As anyone with a dSLR knows, you can get really fancy quickly.. and by fancy, I mean shell out tons and tons of money! Since I’m hardly a pro, I certainly don’t need the most expensive macro lens out there, but regardless whatever I’m going to get will be an investment, so I also don’t want to settle. So all of you blogger photo pros out there – give it to me straight! What is your favorite macro lens that you use to take blog pics?! I’ll be using with my Nikon dSLR, though I’m open to compatible brands, (my wide angle is a Tokina and I LOVE it!).

Zoodles!
via
OMG you guys.. the day has FINALLY arrived.. I am attempting to make the ever popular zoodles tonight! Since it’s the Lenten season, we refrain from eating any meat on Fridays, so instead of ordering pizza for the millionth Friday in a row, I thought this was the perfect time to try out my brand new veggie spiralizer!
I’ve been pinning and pinning my heart out with all of the great recipes I’ve been seeing from all of my favorite blogs, and I think I’m going to try out a shrimp and veggie stir fry over the zoodles. I’ll be sure to post some pics – as long as it’s a success, of course!! And please continue to share your favorite recipes since I suspect I’m going to love this little gadget!

Shameless

Any other Shameless fans out there?! OMG this series continues to just get better and better and I found myself tearing up at two different times during the last episode! I mean, those Gallagher’s are basically the definition of a hot mess, but the acting and writing is really phenomenal, and there have been so many poignant moments this season! I won’t give any spoilers in case anyone is behind, but can I just say, how did Mickey become one of my favorite characters these days?!

Favorite Reads of the Week

I thought it would be fun to close out with some of my favorite reads of the week that were instantly added to my saved Bloglovin’ collections:
What were you most excited about this week?!

Cheers to AmandaJennieKarliClare, Rebecca, Katie, Natasha, Heather, Farrah, and Tif for hosting today's link-ups!

  2. I've only done ONE zoodle recipe and need to do more. Pizza is sooo much easier, but the hard work pays off. I've been wanting to get a macro lens that a lot of Youtubers use, but mine works so I've been putting off. I'm a Canon girl so IDK if you can cross or not but this is the one I've been eyeing. Good luck! I'll need to check back to see what people suggest!

  4. I love all the e-cards you have in today's post - they all are so relevant and true, lol! Those roman shades are gorgeous - we are trying to pick out new shades for our family room, so I may have to look into those myself! I definitely think you're going to love zoodles - so easy, delicious and healthy! Have a great weekend!

  5. I'm so happy that it was warmer this week but sadly, it didn't last. It was so freaking cold this morning. Ugh but I really shouldn't complain. It's better than snow. My mom used Blinds to Go and loved them. Her window treatments are so nice. That was so nice of your in-laws. Have a fab weekend.

  10. Yeah!!!!! Let me know your thoughts on the veggie spiralizer! I have a 50 1.8 lens and it's great but I still have to play around with it. I think I need to get a halo light unfortunately....

  13. Lol @ the Pinning ecard. It truly is so easy to pin a bunch of recipes but not so easy to get all the ingredients and make them. Thanks for the recommendation on the blinds. That's one thing we really need to upgrade at home but I know how expensive they can get.

  14. Yay for your spriralizer!!! I have liked all the recipes I have tried so far!!! Chris and I watched the first two episodes of Shameless. I liked it and he didn't so we haven't watched it since but I really want to and will have to find time to sneak it in somehow!!! Those window treatments are fabulous!!! Funny how we get excited about those types of things as adults! Have a great weekend!

  16. Shameless is one of my favorite television shows! It's so dark and funny and entertaining. The characters are so complex too. Before the season started I wrote a post on the 6 reasons why Shamless is must-watch television. Mickey Milkovich is definitely on the list :)
