Capturing Love and Life: Idalia Photography

Hey Gals! You may remember back in December we posted the gorgeous pictures from our holiday photo shoot (and have since posted many other times!) that were taken by the extremely talented Alex Peterson of Idalia Photography, one half of the husband and wife photography team based in Central New Jersey.

Today we wanted to do a full feature on Idalia Photography, since their main focus is on capturing life’s important moments, such as weddings, newborn, maternity and family shoots (though of course, blogger photoshoots certainly qualify in my book as an important life moment!).

I was first introduced to Idalia Photography when I was searching for a newborn photographer for Little M. After speaking a bit with Alex, and checking out their gorgeous blog, I was sold and we penciled in a session, which would get booked once Little M made his arrival (since as we all know, due dates and delivery dates can be very different!).

Typically newborn shoots are scheduled within a week to 10 days of the baby’s arrival, so once he was born, we setup a date for Alex to come to my house. I loved that the photos would be taken right in my home since that is where he’d be most comfortable, plus it allowed us to capture his nursery in the pictures and also include some shots with his big sister, Fred!

To say I was blown away by the photos is definitely an understatement. As most new moms can attest, you certainly aren’t feeling your most fresh a week out from giving birth – between lack of sleep, still having most of the baby weight, and barely finding the time to fix your hair and makeup, I was so grateful that Alex was able to capture our new little family so beautifully.

She gracefully posed us to highlight our best sides (come on, you know we all have a “good” side!) and was super gentle with our squishy little guy.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how the pictures have turned out, and am so happy that we have Little M’s newborn days beautifully captured. We ended up using the pictures for our Birth Announcement Christmas Card last year, as well as his Baptism Invitation.

The print quality is just as beautiful and we received so many compliments from family members and friends on the pictures.

Additionally, for our anniversary last year, GG surprised me by having one of my very favorite pictures blown up and printed on canvas. It’s such a great shot of our little family and definitely the showpiece of our living room.

After seeing how beautifully the pictures printed on canvas, my parents also ended up getting one of the pictures printed for their sitting room.

I may be biased that Little M’s pictures are my favorite of hers, but I also wanted to share some of her other recent newborn shots – prepare yourself for cuteness overload!

I love all of the adorable little props and accessories that Idalia brings to the shoot - how adorable are these little headbands and hats?!

In addition to newborn photography, Idalia Photography also shoots weddings, with the philosophy to tell your story as it unfolds in a way that is natural and relaxed.

While their newborn photography is based in Central New Jersey, they are willing to travel to surrounding areas for weddings – so for any NYC brides out there, I definitely recommend reaching out to them.

In addition to stalking checking out their latest snaps on Instagram, I love following their blog.  They feature all of their beautiful photo shoots (check out Little M’s shoot here!), along with also featuring photography and wedding tips, as well a glimpse into the behind the scenes of world of photography and equipment. I love their ‘what’s in our bag’ feature and seeing all of the impressive equipment that they work with.

The pictures alone really speak for themselves, but on top of that, they are a pleasure to work with. For anyone in the NJ metro area, I definitely cannot recommend Idalia Photography enough! If you are interested in contacting them for more information, reach out to them here. And if you’re like me, and a total photo junky, be sure to follow them for your daily dose of eye candy:
