The NYC girls are back, and Andy Cohen has really outdone himself this time in assembling a dream team of housewives. Can anyone believe that he actually got Bethenny to come back?! We don't like to play favorites when it comes to the housewives, but we definitely have a soft spot for the New York installment - not only do they know how to bring the drama, but we love checking out the places they go in the city (especially when we can recognize right away exactly where they are!). As usual, we're kicking this season off with an analysis of their new taglines:
"All play and no work makes me a happy girl." - Carole
B: Right off the bat, I am NOT a fan of this line! In fact, I think it's my least favorite of the bunch. Carole has always prided herself on being a working writer (who can forget her infamous "ghostwriter" feud with Aviva last season?), so this line rings false for me. Although, considering the fact that Carole appears to be missing deadlines for her latest book, perhaps this tagline is a preview of her storyline for this season.
“I know I’m a piece of work. But now, I’m a work in progress.” - Ramona
M: I wasn’t sure about this one at first, but after hearing it a couple more times - yes, we re-watch the taglines many times over to ensure we giving our gals a fair shake (#seriousbloggerbusiness) - I think this may be one of my favorites for this season! I think we’re in for a far more humble Ramona this season and I appreciate her poking a little fun at herself while keeping it real in light of her impending divorce.
"My yacht may have sailed, but my ship is coming in." - Sonja
B: This is SUCH a perfectly Sonja line - it sort of acknowledges that her former lifestyle has slipped from her grip, but that something good is right around the corner for her. Of course, Sonja's business ventures never seem to get off the ground yet she is always claiming to be just on the brink of something big, so this line encapsulates the slightly delusional air that always seems to surround Sonja. I'm just glad this line is more coherent than last season's "commando" disaster!
“Pretty is smarter than you think.” - Kristen
M: Oh Kristen.. I get what you were doing here, but I really can’t help but HATE it! She’s trying to respond to all of the backlash of last year’s tagline but it just falls flat for me and honestly contradicts everything she was previously saying about last season’s tagline! She made a big fuss to explain that her ‘not the sharpest tool’ tagline was her being funny and not taking herself too seriously, so to follow with this one, just makes no sense to me!
"One should know...never count out The Countess!" -LuAnn
B: First of all, I am so, so, so happy that The Countess is back as an official housewife! I loved her guest cameos last season, and am so glad that we'll have more time with her. This line is my favorite of the bunch, for a couple of reasons: 1) The first part of the line is classic Countess and sounds like it was lifted straight from her etiquette book, and 2) I appreciate the play on "count out"/"The Countess", especially since LuAnn is asserting herself here. She is a force to be reckoned with, and I can't wait to see what she brings to the table this season!
“I’m not a housewife, but I am real.” - Bethenny
M: After much hype and publicity, Bethenny is back! So naturally I was expecting big, big things from her tagline, only to be seriously let down. I guess this is fine enough, but I’m just not feeling it. I want something sassy and snarky from Bethenny, but instead this is boring and a little condescending. Come on B, if you’re going to come back, you need to bring it!!
"I'm stronger than anything in my way. Holla!" - Heather
B: Well, it just wouldn't be a Heather line without her classic "holla!", which still cracks me up more than it should. Heather definitely has a lot on her plate with her son's health issues, and she had no time or patience for nonsense last season, so it looks like our gal is ready to be tough once again. It's not the most groundbreaking line, but it's well-suited to Heather so I'm ok with it.
“I give uptown a whole new attitude.” - Dorinda
M: And to close things out, we have our newbie Dorinda. From what I’ve read about Dorinda and heard about this season, I think she’s going to be a great addition to the cast, but this tagline certainly isn’t winning her any awards! In my opinion this is as bland and generic as they come, and doesn’t leave any lasting impressions. Hopefully it’s not an indication of her personality this season, and just a small misstep on her part!
Now we want to hear from you...what do you think of the new lines? And are you as excited as we are about this new season?
