Five on Friday {July 10, 2015} + $250 Nordstrom Giveaway!

Greetings from Astoria! I've been spending most of my days unpacking, hunting down new furniture, and working with T to make our new apartment a home. Thanks to all of you for your kind wishes and congratulations - I'm loving how everything is shaping up so far! Here are some other things I'm loving this week:

Apartment Painting
Our new bedroom
You didn't think I could get through a list of five things without mentioning at least one apartment item, did you? T and I have been hard at work adding some splashes of color to our new living spaces. So far, we've made over the bedroom with a pretty lime green (full credit to T on that one) and we combined forces to create our bold, red living room walls.

The transformation begins...
Next up: painting the bathroom, and adding a chalkboard accent wall!

Summer Food
Steak by CookUnity
BBQ Chicken by CookUnity
Now that it's July and the weather is really heating up, I've been all about eating seasonally and filling my menus with classic summer food (namely, barbecues!). This week alone has brought plenty of dining deliciousness to our kitchen - I made a big batch of Mediterranean Orzo Pasta Salad, and T cooked up these gorgeous kebabs:

When it got too hot to stand over the stove, we ordered some delish home-cooked meals from our favorite delivery service, CookUnity. I've previously sung their praises and feel like I'm constantly hitting refresh on their website to stalk their new weekly menus so if you're in the New York area and haven't checked them out yet, do yourself a favor and order up some yumminess right away! Earlier this week, T and I feasted on their BBQ chicken with mac and cheese (sooooo good) and flat iron steak with roasted corn...SUCH great summer dishes!

"Sorry"

I recently read this article by one of my favorite authors, Sloane Crosley, and it kind of blew my mind to realize how frequently I'm guilty of this bad habit. Can anyone else relate? And if you haven't already read Sloane's brilliant essay collection, I Was Told There'd Be Cake, please consider it required reading for the summer.

New York Musical Theatre Festival

Earlier this week, I attended the Opening Night celebration for the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), which mounts a slew of new musicals over the course of three weeks each summer. Some major productions like Next to Normal and Altar Boyz originated at the festival, so you never know if you might catch a glimpse of Broadway's next hit! I'll definitely be show-hopping at the festival for the next few weeks.
