Five on Friday: {September 25, 2015}

Happy Friday Gals! This week was a total dud for me.. Little M caught a nasty cold and passed it along to me in the form of bronchitis. So most of my week was spent dying on the couch in a plague of sickness (yeah.. I'm a pretty huge baby when I get sick!). So not too much exciting stuff to report, but I am super excited for the weekend now that I'm finally starting to feel a little better. To kick things off, here are my 5 4 favorites (and 1 not so favorite) of the week:

The Mindy Project Binge Fest

The only bright spot of being deathly ill on the couch for 3 days was that I indulged in waaaayyy too much binge watching of The Mindy Project. I've professed my love of this show before, but I realized that I actually started watching it mid-way through season 2. So I decided to try out the free month that Hulu is currently offering and dig in from the start (side note, THANK YOU Hulu for saving this amazing show!!!). It was seriously the perfect company while I was miserable on the couch and I'm excited to finish it out, and then check out the new episodes that just started airing.

PopSugar Must Have Box

And speaking of Mindy Kaling, did you know that she just came out with a new book?! Besides the binge watching, the only other activity that I was able to muster the strength to do this week was a little online shopping. After being intrigued by the monthly subscription box offered by PopSugar, I finally gave in and order the October box since it includes Mindy's new book! I'm so excited to try it out and I promise to post a full review once I get it. And if you want to check out October's box - feel free to sign up here via this referral link (and I'll love you forever!).

Kate Spade Cobalt Studs

Another little sick day treat that I indulged in.. these gorgeous cobalt studs from Kate Spade. What can I say?! I was all loopy off of medicine and seeing Mindy's fabulous wardrobe for 3 days straight so I decided these beauties needed to be mine. They come next week and I can't wait - I mean, isn't cobalt a must for fall?

Lentil and Sausage Soup
When I finally emerged from my sickness haze this week, I tried out one of the delicious soups on my Fall Recipe Bucket List - the Sausage and Lentil Soup from Smitten Kitchen.  I didn't think it was worth a whole post since I didn't really deviate from the recipe at all, but it sure was delicious. Exactly what the doctor ordered and I recommend you all try it out immediately!

New (Bad!) Haircut

I was pretty hesitant to post about this one, but in the spirit of keeping it real... I went in for a trim 2 weeks ago and basically got scalped! Ok, so maybe that's a little dramatic, but when you ask for a lob right above your shoulders, and leave with a bob above your chin, it's a pretty traumatic experience! And I know, in the scheme of things it's only hair and it will grow back quickly, but I'm just not feeling this haircut and am hoping some of you gals have some magical styling tips. I've been all over The Beauty Department, but sadly nothing has helped - at best, I have days where I don't completely *hate* it. Any other bob gals out there who can help me out and recommend a product or tool or two?!

So while it's been a pretty uneventful week, I'm certainly ready for the weekend! And with any luck I'll finally be healthy enough to have a glass of wine - yay!

Hope you gals all have a fab weekend - what are you all up to?!

Cheers to April, AmandaJennieKarliClare, Rebecca, Katie, Heather, Annie, and Tif for hosting today's link-ups!

  1. Hope you're feeling better lady! That soup sure does look delicious - that's something I need to try out.

  2. Oh no, sorry to hear you've been sick but binge watching The Mindy Project is always a good way to spend a sick day! I had no clue she had a new book out! LOVE those KS studs, so pretty!

  3. I think binging on Mindy project and getting Kate Spade earrings are two good ways to deal with being sick :)
I'm so sorry that you dont love your haircut! I've had butcher jobs before and it's the worst feeling. On the bright side, I wouldn't have known it was a "bad job" if you hadn't said anything! I don't think anyone else will think that's just not what you wanted, which stinks :(

  4. Those earrings are everything. And that soup looks amazing!!

  5. I'm listening to Mindy's audiobook right now and love it---so funny!

  6. So sorry that you were sick this week, but happy to hear that you're starting to feel better. That soup sounds good, and those earrings are really pretty!! Love the Mindy Project and I was reading about her new book in US Weekly yesterday. She is so cute!! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!! :-)

  7. i love the earrings! i think your hair is cute!! you could try some waves with a flat iron to mix it up. i'm a beauty blogger, so let me know what you're looking for and i might can help.

  8. Glad you're feeling better! I think your haircut looks great, but of course if it's not what you wanted, I understand your feelings! But it will show off those earrings all the more :)

  9. Hope you feel better! Always loved those stud earrings. Something quick to throw on for an elevated look.

  10. Hope you feel better soon. Love your earrings. I think your hair looks great but I totally understand how you feel. I asked for a lob a few months ago and my stylist when way shorter than I wanted. I will be honest, I wore a hat alot. The good news is hair does grow fast.

  11. I hope you feel much better! The soup looks like the perfect Fall dish! Enjoy the weekend!

  12. Love the colors of the KS studs!! I have two pairs already ,but gosh that blue is too pretty!

  13. LOVE those KS earrings - such a gorgeous color! And I hear ya on haircuts you weren't expecting, I know it's not what you wanted but you do look fabulous! Hope you're feeling better hun *hugs*.

  14. Glad you're feeling better - mindy can do that to you! I'm going to sign up for hulu to get that free month in as well! Sorry the hair didn't workout - but I think it looks great! xo, biana -BlovedBoston

  15. Oh no! So sorry about the hair but I actually like it and remember it is just hair and will grow back. It could be worse - you could have gotten a wonky boob job or something! Hehe! Thank you for telling me about the free month on Hulu! I almost signed up last night but I was too cheap. I want to try it though! Have a great weekend! xo

  16. Check out Live With Kelly And Michael for some bob inspiration...she always comes up with great looking ways to style hers!

  17. Aw glad you are on the mend! That soup sounds great and a perfect cure for sickness. I have a "bob" and use the tiniest amount of Argan oil on it while wet, then blow dry and straighten (thanks to my naturally wavy mess of hair!). Are your sides angled some? If not, maybe someone (you trust!) could shape the look a little more to your liking? Hope you have a great weekend, pretty!

  18. I've never seen The Mindy Project, but I've heard it's great so I think I definitely need to check it out! Also I have those earrings (in blue and four other colors) and I love them so much I wear them all the time! Hope you and your mini are feeling all better this weekend!

  19. Hope you're feeling better! That soup sounds delicious, and I am so excited to get Mindy's new book in the PopSugar box! :)

  20. Ughhh I hate when they don't follow my instructions on a haircut!!! That is why I am so picky about who I go to. I have a person in Atlanta and one here in Birmingham that can cut my hair and that is it! I trust no one else after horrible, traumatic experiences!!! But it does grow back! It just isn't what you want to hear at the moment. You are probably the only person that thinks it is a bad job though! I wouldn't have thought anything of it...just that you went shorter. I hope you feel better! I love The Mindy Project!!!

  21. It seems that everyone I know has gotten a too short or badly chopped haircut at the salon. Most of the stylists get through beauty school, try their hand at their dream career and then six months later they are trying to find another job. So sadly most wielding the shears have very little experience and it shows. I have been salon free for years. I let my new boyfriend give me a haircut when we first started dating after I talked his ear off about how much I hate going to the salon. Net result is he did a great job, I told him he was my new stylist as I was done with the salon. He still cuts my hair for me every 2-3 months I have not gotten a bad or too short haircut from him. Unlike my many trips to the salon where I went home and cried.

Thanks for visiting The Sequin Notebook! We LOVE hearing from you :)
