October Cocktail Link-Up + Apple Cider Whiskey Sour Recipe

Hey Gals! You all know how much we love cocktail link-up day around here, but we're especially excited because we cannot get enough of our fall inspired recipe for this month! We love to play around with new recipes, so this month we wanted to feature a spirit that has surprisingly been absent from any of our other cocktail recipes - Whiskey! It's the perfect base for a fall cocktail if you ask us, so we decided to go with the classic Whiskey Sour recipe, though as usual, we couldn't resist putting our own twist on it.  We are absolute apple cider junkies around here, and always have a jug on hand in the fridge, so we decided it was the perfect flavor enhancer to take this cocktail to the next level.

A classic whiskey sour calls for just just a handful of ingredients - whiskey, lemon juice, sugar, and believe it or not, egg white.

We know... we were a little wary of putting raw egg white in a cocktail, but we really wanted to keep with the classic recipe, and we're sure glad we did! You don't taste the egg at all, and it gives it almost a meringue like quality. You can certainly skip it, and it'll still be completely delicious, but it really did add something special, and it's what gives you that great frothy top layer.

Since it's fall, and we're obsessed with all things apple cider, we decided to add a little cider to our cocktail, and we recommend you do the same!

The cider pair perfectly with the bourbon - it's a little bit sweet, a little bitter tart, and definitely has a little bit of a kick to it.

And mixing it up couldn't be easier - just take all of your ingredients, and pour into a cocktail shaker full of ice. Shake for about 15 seconds, and viola - a perfectly chilled and frothed autumnal cocktail!

Ingredients:
  • 1 shot of whiskey (we are partial to Buffalo Trace Bourbon since it's a little bit sweet)
  • 1 shot of apple cider
  • Juice from half of a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon
  • 1 egg white
  • A dash of cinnamon
    Recipe:

Combine all ingredients (except the cinnamon) in a cocktail shaker over ice, shake for a good 15 seconds and strain into your martini glass. Top with cinnamon, put on your best blanket scarf, and enjoy outside!

Oh and in case you're wondering - the cocktail napkins were a recent pickup from Home Goods. It's literally impossible to leave there without at least 3 packs of cocktail napkins every time we go!

Now it's your turn! Join the party and link-up your favorite cocktail recipe - old or new! As always, we're not sticklers here, so feel free to take a little creative license - wine, beer, mocktails, glassware.. we love it all!
