While we usually try to keep it light on this blog, today I'd like to share some information about an important organization that is providing critical support for many people in need.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and I was fortunate enough to participate in an event last week with Safe Horizon, the nation's leading organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence.
Safe Horizon empowers victims of domestic violence to move from crisis to confidence, and provides them with the most basic essentials (such as food, clothing, and a safe place to sleep) during the times they need it most. Their national Put the Nail in It campaign aims to end domestic violence for good, so last week I went to Henri Bendel's NYC flagship store for a special campaign event to learn more about Safe Horizon's mission.
The event encouraged us to shop to support the organization's work, as 10% of all proceeds were donated to Safe Horizon. Additionally, special #PutTheNailinIt manicures were provided to the attendees as a visual sign of support for domestic violence victims. The #PutTheNailinIt manicure includes a purple accent nail on your left ring finger - the goal is that when people compliment you on your eye-catching mani, you can expand the conversation about domestic violence.
The statistics about how many people are impacted by domestic violence are truly staggering, with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men being victimized in their lifetimes. Let's be part of the change - here are 3 easy ways that you can participate in the #PutTheNailinIt campaign this October to put a stop to domestic violence:
1) Make a donation to Safe Horizon.
It really is true that every little bit helps!
2) Paint your left ring fingernail purple.
I'm still rocking my #PutTheNailinIt mani and have shared information about Safe Horizon and the campaign when people have asked me about my purple nail (which has happened several times!).
3) Share with the hashtag #PutTheNailinIt and ask 3 friends to make the vow with you.
This October, let's make a difference and put the nail in it - visit Safe Horizon and #PutTheNailinIt to learn more how you can help!
