Five on Friday {December 11, 2015}

The holiday season is in full swing, and I've been loving every minute of it! For once, I feel like I've hit on a really good balance of being prepared for the holidays but not overly scheduled without a minute to sit back, breath, and soak it all in. My Christmas cards are in the mail, most of my gifts have been bought, and there are plenty of holiday festivities on the calendar (T and I had THREE office holiday parties this past week alone, and will be attending a Hanukkah party and Christmas brunch this weekend). However, my favorite memories of the season so far have been the simpler things, like watching a Christmas movie while sporting Christmas PJs and sipping on some hot chocolate (with maybe a pinch of Bailey's) and strolling through our neighborhood to look at the Christmas lights.

Here are the five things I'm loving this week...and of course, they all have to do with Christmas!

Our 1st Christmas Tree

It's our first Christmas in this new apartment, so I was more than ready to make up for lost time in the tree department. My old studio certainly did not have the extra room for a tree, and even in my other previous apartments, the best I had done was a four foot fake tree...but this year, T and I found a gorgeous, fresh Fraser Fir who is the perfect holiday centerpiece for our home! We named him Lord von Baron von Stanislaw Glitterkowski (because all trees must be named, obviously), but you can call him Stan for short.

New Favorite Christmas Song

M and I can agree that our Michael Buble fandom really knows no bounds (we promise, it really doesn't) so it's no surprise that his new Christmas song, "The More You Give," is on constant rotation in our homes this season! If you didn't scramble to iTunes to download it the second it became available like we did, head over there now and give it a listen - it's a peppy, infectious tune that will immediately put you in the Christmas spirit and will likely cause multiple dance parties in your kitchen. It's super catchy!

Christmas in NYC

Living in New York City is a dream year-round, but there is something extra special about the city at Christmas time. Last year, T and I went to see the big tree at Rockefeller Center late night after one of my work events and literally as soon as we got there, the lights shut off! It was so disappointing! Luckily, the past year was worth the wait as we finally got our pretty tree selfie. I'm looking forward to more city holiday festivities this weekend!

Gift wrapping color scheme

I am all about a nice, long, relaxing gift wrapping session (complete with background Christmas music and a refreshing cocktail, of course). With so many amazing gift wrap options out there, I decided to limit myself to a specific color scheme of red, white, and black with touches of gold - not only did this help me focus on a few fun, crafty ways to upgrade my gift wrap, but it also allowed me to incorporate T's beloved Alabama pride into the gift wrap scheme (see that awesome ribbon above!). The Sugar Paper gift wrap from (where else?) Target is the glue that's tying this whole thing together, and I'm loving all of their pretty options at such affordable prices! How are you attacking your gift wrapping?

Cheesy Hallmark Christmas Movies
Still waiting for that Mistletones 2 sequel...

I am not (very) ashamed to admit that I am completely obsessed with all of the holiday made-for-TV movies that get churned out this time of year. My DVR is filled with them, and I've been loving catching up on this year's new crop (and they've been giving me all sorts of 90s nostalgia, considering that Candace Cameron Bure, Mayim Bialik, and Lori Loughlin are just a few of the leading ladies who've recently graced my screen!). If you're looking for some candy cane fluff to curl up with on the couch, check out our list of favorites: Part One and Part Two.

How are you embracing your holiday spirit?

Cheers to AprilAmandaJennieKarliRebecca, Katie, Heather, and Tif for hosting today's link-ups!

  3. I love that you named your tree Stan, that's so awesome! And I haven't heard that new Michael Buble song but I'm headed over to iTunes to check it it now. His Christmas special last night was so awesome! And seriously Christmas in NYC is the best! I think that I started missing it as soon as we were in the taxi headed to the airport.

  19. Love your gift wrapping scheme. I chose red and gold this year! I bought my paper from Target, too. They were SO on point this year. I also love that you tied a candy cane. I did little bells! But I still have a few to wrap and I adore the candy cane idea, so sweet!

  20. YAY for the tree! I totally feel you on not having enough room. The one we have now is about 6 feet but we didn't even have room for THAT this year because of wedding boxes and whatnot... so I put it up at work instead, lol! :)
