Five on Friday {May 30, 2015}

TGIF! Even though this was a short work week, it somehow still felt long (probably due to trying to cram 5 days of work into only 4!). Nevertheless, the weekend is finally here, and I am more than ready for it. Here are the 5 things I’m loving this week:
Memorial Day happenings

NYC was blessed with gorgeous weather on Monday, so what better way to celebrate than with a leisurely picnic? A group of friends and I met up in Central Park with our blankets, snacks, and a football to toss around. It was a perfectly loungey afternoon…if only all Mondays could be so lovely!

I know I’m late to the party on this one, so please let me know…who else is a fan of Poshmark? For other newbies like me, Poshmark is an app where you can buy and sell gently used clothing and accessories. There are some really fantastic finds on there! I’ve been trying to purge my closet but it’s hard to part with certain expensive items, so this is a great way to make a little cash while clearing out some room in my little studio. I’ve only just started exploring the site and have slowly added a few things to my closet, so any pro tips would be very welcome! You can find my closet on Poshmark at @SequinB and M’s closet at @Mosses. Also, if you sign up using referral code PHHCH, you and I will each receive a $5 credit - so get shopping!

Trader Joe's Goat Cheese

I’ve never been shy about my love for Trader Joe’s, and it seems like there is always some brilliant product to discover each time I go! T and I have recently started cooking more (and therefore, started making more frequent Trader Joe’s runs), and we came across this yummy cheese. Gals, I’m telling you, it is transformative and a welcome addition to practically every dish! It’s been a particular hit in our homemade pizzas and quesadillas. Do yourselves a favor and drop this in your cart the next time you’re hitting up TJs – I promise, you won’t regret it!

DIY Ikea Hacks

I’ve been yearning for some new craft projects lately and feeling drawn to furniture, so of course I’ve been stalking Pinterest for inspiration. I swear, some of these transformations are simply magical – I’m not quite sure yet how I’ll recreate or put my own spin on them, but here are a few of my favorites:

Bar Cart

 Dresser Makeover

And speaking of home décor, I’ve been intrigued by this succulent arrangement and am contemplating making my own. I really love the rustic feel of the succulents mashed up with the gold, gem-shaped vessel! Between this and the DIY projects, I’m definitely starting to settle into some summer nesting (and plan to balance it all out with lots of fun warm weather soirees and excursions, of course!).

May your weekends be filled with sunshine and fun!

Cheers to April, AmandaJennieKarliClare, Rebecca, Katie, Heather, Farrah, and Tif for hosting today's link-ups!

Summer Beauty Favorites

Hey Gals! Whenever the seasons change, I tend to switch up my beauty routine a bit, and swap in some new items that work better based on the elements. Now that summer is upon us, I love changing up my fragrance to something crisp and fresh, and also lightening up my beauty routine. Today I’m sharing some of my summer beauty essentials – a mix of tried and true favorites, along with some new discoveries I recently added into the mix.

1. Cedrat Enivrant Cologne

As I mentioned above, my fragrance is one of the first things I like to switch up once the seasons change. My usual go-to is Marc Jacob’s Daisy, but last summer I discovered Atelier Cologne's Cédrat Enivrant and it’s now taken the top spot! After B raved about Atelier Cologne, I couldn’t wait to check them out myself, and finally got the chance during last year’s weekend away in NYC. After trying literally every fragrance in the store, I kept going back to this one and now I can’t get enough of it. It has a slightly masculine smell to that, without being overpowering, with notes of citrus and mint.

2. Dove go fresh Cool Moisture Body Wash

Dove Cool Moisture Body Wash is a drugstore favorite of mine for the summer. I love how moisturizing it is, while providing a little cooling effect thanks to the cucumber. I also can’t get enough of the clean scent and love that it lingers throughout the day leaving you feeling fresh even on the hottest of days.

3. Drybar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray
Sea Salt Sprays are always a favorite of mine in the summer, especially on those scorching hot days where even the thought of using a blow dryer makes me sweat. I recently discovered the Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray from Dry Bar and it’s now become my go-to for perfect beach hair. It does a great job of helping you achieve those beachy waves without leaving your hair too gritty – plus it has that signature Dry Bar scent that all of their hair products have, which I can’t get enough of. (Side note – if you’ve never tried any dry bar product, you must, for the smell alone! At B’s birthday party both of us separately received multiple compliments from different people that we smelled amazing – since we didn’t have on the same perfume, we realized it was our hair that smelled so good!)

4. Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colors

I pretty much love a bright lip all year round, but when the summer rolls around, I go for more ‘popsicle’ brights, versus the classic brights (does that make sense?!) – I love these sheer brights from Bobbi Brown. They give you a perfect pop of color without being too sticky or heavy.
5. Essie Borrowed & Blue
I love a good chalky pastel polish for the summer - it's the perfect against tanned skin. My current favorite is Borrowed and Blue from Essie, though you really can't go wrong with any of Essie's pastels. And for even more summer polish goodness, check out last years favorites here.

6. Bronzer Love
I’m not shy about the fact that I love to sport a sun kissed look (see above!), but in the Summer, I take it up a notch and layer 2 different bronzers on my face. I start with Nars bronzer in Casino all over, and then add a dusting of Bobbi Brown’s Bronze Shimmer brick to the apples of my cheeks and my nose.

7. Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse

And speaking of sun kissed (told you I was a tan junkie!), this goes for the rest of my body too! I love to sport a tan in the summer, but don’t love all of the harm it can do to your body, which is why I’m all about the self-tanner option! I was recently introduced to Cocoa Brown, and was instantly hooked! I love their 1 hour tanning foam and apply it weekly to give me that natural bronzed look. (And stay tuned – we’ll be posting full review of this product and a couple other winners from Cocoa Brown in the coming weeks!)

What are some of your favorite Summer beauty products? Any major items I'm missing out on?

Creative Closet: A Little Bit of Lace

Lace is one of my favorite fabrics, but I feel like it has gotten a bit of a bad reputation lately as being synonymous with old lady style (or, on the other end of the spectrum, for little girls only). I love the romantic, girly feel of lace all on its own, but my favorite way to wear it is to roughen it up a bit with some surprising edges.

How pretty is this cheery blue color? While I still love a classic cream or blush lace, I was drawn to this dress because of its unexpected hue. To harden up the softness of the lace, I added a pretty gold metal necklace. I knew I wanted to top this look off with some kind of hair accessory, but none of mine seemed to be quite right. Luckily, T had his summer hat sitting around, and I really liked the idea of mixing a man's piece with this super-feminine dress.

Dress - Urban Outfitters (old; similar here)
Necklace - Peachy Pie Designs
Hat - Gap

What do you think of lace - love it, or hate it? And how do you style it?

Five on Friday: {May 22, 2015} + Giveaway!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend Gals! This weekend officially marks the start of Summer (or at least it does in my book!), and I couldn't be more excited for the coming months of sun, fun and of course, lots of galishness. To kick things off, I've got my 5 favorites of the week, along with a fun little giveaway!

***Congrats to Caroline from Windy City Chic, you are the winner of our polish giveaway!!***

Beach Bound

This weekend we'll be spending Memorial Day down at the Jersey shore, at my in-laws beach house. Lots of beach time is probably the number one item on my Summer bucket list, so I'm happy to start the season off with a bang! We'll be heading down on Saturday night for dinner and cocktails, followed by a big family BBQ on Sunday, and ending the weekend with some relaxing fun in the sun on Monday before heading home.

New Patio Lights
A while back I mentioned my grand plans dreams of installing some bistro lights across my patio. Well after much pin-spiration, I'm finally making it a reality this weekend! Before we head down the shore on Saturday night, GG and I will be attempting to install some gorgeous patio lights using this tutorial from Bright July. While I may be crafty, any sort of home improvement projects tend to be disastrous in my house, so please wish us luck and think good thoughts that not only do the lights get installed, but that we don't kill each other in the process! I promise to post some pics, as long as they end up being post worthy!!

Florida Getaway Booked
This week GG and I officially booked a little mini vacay for the end of June to Florida! One of our college friends is having a destination wedding in Fort Lauderdale, and we've decided to make a fun trip out of it! This will be our first ever vacation without Little M, and while I know I'm going to miss him terribly, this mama is excited for an adults only getaway! So for any of you Floridian gals, please share some recommendations you may have for the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood area! We have 2 whole free days on top of the wedding festivities and I'm hoping to make the most of it!

I've been pretty much lusting after Kendra Scott's gorgeous tassel necklaces for as long as I can remember. Well thanks to a Nordstrom giftcard burning a hole in my pocket, plus the lure of my friend, Ebates offering 16% cash back, it was just too much to resist and I finally pulled the trigger! I went with this beautiful periwinkle blue and gold combo, though I could have easily selected any other color since I love them all! I received my new beauty this week, and plan to live in it alllll weekend! The only problem is that now I want all the colors, and between the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale, and the Kendra Scott Memorial Day sale, I may just need to pick up a buddy for my new baby.

Lilly for Target Mani + a small Giveaway!

This week I finally broke out some of the Lilly for Target/Essie polishes I picked up during my sale haul. In the frenzy that was "Pink Sunday", I managed to snag 3 polishes: Borrowed & Blue, a chalky light blue, First Timer, a gorgeous milky green, and Where's My Chauffeur, a beautiful turquoise creme. After much deliberation, I went with First Timer as my main color and Borrowed & Blue as an accent nail.

I'm loving the color combo and in honor of it being Summer, I wanted to have a little fun and offer the third (unopened!) polish as a giveaway to one of you lucky Gals!
No follows or raffle required - just leave a comment on today's post, and I'll select a lucky winner using to receive Where's My Chauffeur! I'll pick the winner on Monday, and announce shortly after - good luck, Gals!

What is everyone else up to this Memorial Day Weekend?

Cheers to April, AmandaJennieKarliClare, Rebecca, Katie, Heather, Farrah, and Tif for hosting today's link-ups!

Bomb Cake Pops

Cake pops are always a surefire crowd-pleaser, which is why we love making them for parties. Well, the truth is, we may not always love the actual MAKING part because they can definitely be a labor of love (depending on the intricacy of your design), but seeing how adorable they look when they are complete and hearing everyone rave about them makes it all worth it. Here's a quick look at just a few of our favorite past creations:

Today, I'm sharing my Bomb Cake Pops ("bomb" as in an actual explosive, as opposed to "da bomb" - though honestly, these qualify as that, too!). I made them to celebrate the opening of a play at my theater (because the cake pop design recreated the show's logo), but they would also be adorable at a superhero party, or as a special gift for someone you think is "da bomb" (ok, I'll stop with the 90s slang!).

To get started, follow our basic cake pop instructions with the cake mix/frosting of your choice (for these, I used chocolate for both), and read on for the specific bomb design instructions:

* Wilton jumbo stars sprinkles (you'll be using only the red ones)
Twizzlers Twist Pull'n'Peel fruit punch candy (you'll be using only the orange ones)

2) While you're waiting for your cake balls to cool, peel apart your Twizzlers and separate the orange strands. Cut them into 1.5 inch pieces.

2) Dip the cake balls in the black candy melts, and immediately sprinkle with your sugar sparkles.

3) While the cake pop is still wet, stick a Twizzler piece into the very top of the cake ball. Stick the pop into your styrofoam block to dry.

4) Once all of the cake pops are dry, take a toothpick and dip into the chocolate. Spread a dot of the chocolate on the back of a jumbo star, and stick it to the end of the Twizzler "fuse."

What kind of cake pop design would you like to see us tackle next?

Best of Mad Men Fashion

Hey Gals! Last night was the series finale of Mad Men, and I'm already mourning the loss of one of my favorite shows. Don't worry, no spoilers here! Instead, I wanted to pay tribute to this amazing show by showcasing some of my very favorite fashions over the past 7 seasons. The show spanned over a decade and with it was some of the most spectacular fashions I've ever seen. It was really hard to narrow down my favorites, but the ones I've included are definitely some standouts. So today I'm toasting all of the favorite Mad Men gals by giving them a proper sendoff and an ode to their best looks!
