2016 Priorities

Hey Gals! I may be a little late to the party but it's still the first week of the new year so I thought I'd share some of my priorities for the coming year. And I say priorities and not resolutions because I'm trying a bit of a different approach this year. Normally I'm alllll about the resolutions - what's not to love about a fresh start to the year where you can make all sorts of fabulous plans to be your best self possible.

The problem with that (or at least for me), is that when I'm making lists and lists of lofty "resolutions" they don't tend to stick past a month or two (if that!). So while I'd love to say I'm going to lose weight/drink less/read a hundred books/solve world peace, I'm trying to be more deliberate this year and focus on what are truly my priorities.

I recently read the above quote and it really resonated with me. I've often in the past said that if something is important to you and a priority, you do whatever it is you have to do in order to make it happen. As I look back over the past year, and maybe even just the past couple months, I find that I lost sight of this mentality and often used the excuse of being "too busy". And honestly I have been busy (aren't we all) but have I really been putting what means the most to me at the forefront and really prioritizing what's important to me. And I don't want to sound overly dramatic here or paint a picture that I've totally been abandoning what's important to me. It's more so that I want to take the opportunity that a new year always presents and be a little more reflective and a lot more deliberate with my time. So what better way to do that than to actually write it down?! So here are my 2016 priorities, not some lengthy, lofty list, but instead, what's truly important to me in the coming year.

This is obviously a no brainer and something that's always been important to me, but when looking at it from the perspective of what is a priority to me, this is hands down, number one. I mentioned a little while back that my dad is having some health issues and as hard as it's been on my family, it's only made me realize how precious our time together is. I also want to focus on being more present and live in the moment. I'm definitely guilty of browsing on my phone when GG and I unwind after dinner or when Little M is happy to entertain himself with his toys. And while that's fine here or there, I really want to focus on quality time and the here and now with my family.

This one is really two-fold so I'm going to break it down into the two areas that are important to me

Having this blog for the past 2.5 years has been nothing short of amazing. I think it's easy to get a little complacent or burnt out when you do anything for an extended period of time and I definitely feel like that happened to me with blogging towards the end of last year. But blogging still is such a creative passion of mine and I'm beyond ready to breathe some new life into it in 2016. I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank goodness for B, because she truly is my support system and the one who kept the lights on here at TSN whenever I was absent or just out of creative juice. And on top of that, how awesome is it to have a hobby that you share with your bff?! So all this to say, I cannot wait for all that 2016 has to bring on the blogging front. I've already signed up for a couple of webinars and have a running post idea list that makes me so excited for all of the great content that's to come!

And my other creative passion, The Printable Gal! I'd say this is the biggest area that I put on the back burner in 2015 due to "lack of time" and when I look back on that, it only disappoints and frustrates me, which only means this needs to become a major priority in 2016! Being able to create through crafting is seriously good for my soul. Being down in my craft room is my happy place and nothing beats the satisfaction of creating something your proud of... except for maybe when someone pays actual money for said item! So I can't wait to resuscitate my Etsy shop, and really see if I can make a go out of selling my paper goods. My first goal is to add lots more items to the shop and just get the word out there about it! I suspect this will be the area I need the most accountability with, so please feel free to call me out if so time goes by and it's crickets from me about it!

Anyone else taking a different approach to your resolutions this year? I'm really excited with my outlook and think 2016 has the potential to be my best year yet!

  1. I think priorities are a great way to focus on betterment rather than a resolution! I can't seem to sick to a resolution and feel like I'm putting pressure on myself when I make them.

  6. GREAT priorities. I am guilty of being on the phone too much, I need to put it down for sure. I will gladly help spread the word some more about your Etsy shop because I seriously LOVED my straws for the bridal shower. I would love to have a shop, but I'm not sure if it's in the mix for this year as I have some other things that I really want to accomplish first. Good list, and Happy New Year to both of you gals. I'm excited to follow along this year with both of you again...XO!

  8. I love that you've broken down 2016 in priorities. I think that we're all guilty of having distractions around when we're with family, so trying to unplug and focus is a great goal for 2016.

  13. I saw that quote when you posted it on Insta and it resonated with me, too. I am not doing resolutions this year either. I am just trying to stay positive, rebuild and focus on the good things. I also fell into a blogging rut at the end of 2015 and (thankfully) now that I am working my way out of my funk, my creative juices are flowing more and I am starting to get back into it. Here's to a healthy and happy 2016! xo

  14. I like the though process between not having time and not being a priority. I too want to focus on my family more this year. And I'm excited to breathe new life into the blog and other creative outlets as well! We're switching the H54F linkup some, and I'm thinking about adding another post per week, and some other things. I hope your dad is doing better.
